Procedures for AFIB include:

  • Left Atrial Appendage Management — is used to reduce the risk of a stroke caused by AFIB.
  • Ablation — may be an option for people who cannot tolerate medications or when medications are not effective in maintaining a normal heart rhythm.
  • Minimally Invasive Full Cox Maze — is identical to the Classic Full Maze however the surgeon is able to make a small, right-sided chest incision and avoid the traditional median sternotomy incision down the center of the breast bone.
  • Classic Full Cox Maze — is an open heart procedure performed on either a stopped or beating heart. The surgeon uses a surgical ablation energy source to scar mapped areas eliminating the transmission or irregular electrical impulses which cause AFIB.
