The tradition of Mid-Atlantic Cardiothoracic surgeons is built upon 50+ years of providing patients with the highest quality comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical services. Mid-Atlantics' Cardiothoracic Surgery Program is known as a mature, respected program with nationally recognized physician experts, superior quality and complex cases.
Due to technology improvements, patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery are more acute than ever before. Yet, while the level of difficulty in these cases is rising exponentially, Mid-Atlantic Cardiothoracic Surgeons' surgery mortality rates continue to improve
The depth of our experience is demonstrated in the fact that we have performed over 50,000 open heart operations.
Mid-Atlantic Cardiothoracic Surgeons partcipate in Sentara Heart Hospital's four multispecialty programs to provide comprehensive diagnoses and individualized treatment plans for patients with heart failure, arrhythmias, heart valve disease and chest malignancies. The multi-specialty programs include: The Heart Arrhythmia Center, The Advanced Heart Failure Program, The Heart Valve and Structural Disease Center and The Thoracic Surgery Center Program.
The Sentara Heart Valve and Structural Disease Center is a state of the art center with established and innovative valve repair and catheter intervention programs focused on quality. Rapidly growing advances in minimally invasive heart surgery are yielding faster recoveries and improving patient satisfaction and comfort with less visible scarring. Whenever possible, minimally invasive heart surgery is being routinely performed for most single-valve repair and replacement surgeries, because of the benefit to patients.
The Sentara Heart Arrhythmia Center(SHAC) is the Hampton Roads region’s first and only Center that brings together highly talented cardiothoracic surgeons and electrophysiologist cardiologists to diagnose and treat simple to complex atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and other cardiac arrhythmias.
The Sentara Advanced Heart Failure Program includes the options of durable left ventricular assist devices, innovative total artificial heart implantation and heart transplantation, as well as evaluation and treatments of advance pulmonary arterial hypertension. Our physicians are participating in groundbreaking research to improve the management of heart failure patients.
