By providing you with information about your cardiac and thoracic surgical care, we hope to make this time less stressful for you and your family.
Our office staff, many of whom have been with the practice over 15 years, are very knowledgeable about matters such as scheduling, payment procedures, fees, and medical insurance.
While you are hospitalized, some of your care will be provided by our Assistants (surgical and physician assistants). The surgical assistants are certified to assist our surgeons during your operation. Physician Assistants are certified and licensed providers that may assist in the operating room, perform various procedures which you may need, and/or provide care for you while you are hospitalized.
For patients treated at Sentara Heart Hospital, Sentara Nurse Practitioners (supervised by our physicians) will participate in your care once you leave the intensive care unit and will manage your discharge. You will be seen by the Nurse Practitioners in the Cardiac or Thoracic Surgery Clinic (located in the hospital) about two weeks post discharge. Any questions you may have early in your home stay can be addressed to them at 757-388-8441.
Our physicians participate in many nationally and internationally recognized research trials related to cardiac and thoracic surgical care. The Research Coordinators with the Sentara Cardiovascular Research Institute work closely with the physicians of Mid-Atlantic Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Ltd. on these clinical research trials at Sentara Heart Hospital.
